Question:
Has anyone had lap band surgery in India?

I am a self-pay and I only have $7000 for the surgery. I was hoping that someone has had surgery in India or Mexico for that amount and could tell me if they were safe.    — Tasha H. (posted on July 18, 2007)

Hi Tasha, I have heard of people going to Brazil to have the procedure done and Spain. Go under google.com and type in "Gastric bypass Brazil".Best Wishes, Mickey......

hi, I'm having surgery in Mexico for the same reason....it's a thousand dollars more than what you have but the Doctor comes highly recommended and has an incrediable background. However I'm still doing research...so good luck. Once you find a surgeon just do all the research you can about him and the facility. Be Blessed

Both Lap Band and Roux En Y gastric bypass have been performed in Mexico much longer then in the states. I have 2 friends who flew down and had Lap Bands done over one weekend 8 or 10 years ago. They have done very well and loved Dr. Roberto Rumbaut. Go to www.gastricband.com or call him at 1 888 456 1211. I woud go tohim if my insurance pay. I would be interested to know what he charges now. Back then it was around $4000.

I spoke to a friend of mine who had the lap band in Mexico and originally lost a great deal of weight. However, when she wanted to get fills here in the US (Seattle area), she could not find a doctor willing to do it since they would be liable in the event something went wrong. She did find one surgeon who was willing, however, he charged $3000 plus the cost of fills. My friend has regained the weight she lost and is considering looking into RNY
