Question:
Exercise and my butt

I was 3 months post-op christmas day and have lost 60 lbs. My problem is, gone with 60 lbs is my butt. I feel like I sit on bones. Does anyone know how to build up my butt. I walk just about everyday, but not sure what exercises to do to help build up the back side. Sorry to be so blunt, but I am desperate here. I get into pain even when I drive. I bought a pillow to sit on, but after a few, I start acheing. god Bless    — daizi55 (posted on December 30, 2008)

I had, have, the same problem. It has not gotten better and I am a year out. I have a butt, but my tailbone hurts. They say I have arthritis. Anyway, you can stand and lift you leg straight behind you to build up your "butt"! Haha Well good luck! Lesleigh

I started working out with a personal trainer 6 wks after surgery. My butt was one of the areas we fiercely tackled. It is a great investment to join a gym and get some professional advice. If you can't afford it, maybe you can pay for just one individual work out and get the trainer to teach you what excersises would work best for you. Some gyms offer a free sesion to entice you to join but with no obligation. Take advantage of that. make some phone calls and ask around. I now have a killer butt. Good luck.

Get a plastic donut to sit on, it doesn't get any better. My butt goes numb after sitting in bed and I am constantly turning to relieve pressure. A downside to this surgery for me is that my arthritis has really shown it's ugly head since the big weight loss, I think my fat had cushioned it. I can't take any anti arthritis, pain pills go straight to my pouch. My doctor found an enteric coated pain med for me that I have to take daily and it helps soooo much: Ultram extended relief once a day. I take it before bed each night! Good luck! Lori In Michigan

Oh honey! I feel your pain. I went from having the butt of 3 women to negative one. My bones and tailbone in that area of the buttocks - KILL me after sitting for certain amounts of time. I do some exercises - but everyone is different - I would suggest going to a gym - most will give you a free session to try them out and work with a trainer to get you to come in - then do them at home and/or join the gym of course, if you like them, etc. I have certain pants (jeans) that I wear that give me a butt back - shape only. Other pants I look flat as a pancake. Try to find clothes that are cut to emphasize your behind (I know - totally the opposite of what you are used to, huh?) I am almost 2 years out and have to say it's still funny to go shopping and throw all of the old habits out the door and go straight for the size 4 - still doesn't seem real some days. good luck.

I agree with all of the previous writers. Also have you talked to your doc about this? I found out that when I lost a great deal of weight that my tailbone/coxyx was tipped. It was just something I was born with, but never knew it because of my weight padding it. I wound up having surgery for it, and now I have no more problems with it. The doughtnut hold pillows help a lot also. I still have mine. Good luck hon.

Debi, Hi isn't it crazy to think of all those years of having padding and suddenly it is gone. Well, anyway, I would suggest that you find a gym in your area that will allow you to do a month to month membership and then get one of their trainers to come up with a plan for you to build your gluts. The other alternative is a good plastic surgeon. :-)

I use the Leslie Sansome workouts, and have managed to keep my large butt muscles intact, so fr so good. I am 4 months out and do 2 or 3 miles of workout every day with the Leslie Sansome workout Dvd.

I enjoy reading these posts from everyone. I have learned so much about what I can expect after I have surgery! While I currently have more "butt" than I'd like, I thought I'd share with you my take on it. I have seen underwear sold in magazine that have padded backsides. They look quite realistic under clothing. Also, try Googling for exercises that build Gluetus Maximus muscles. Have a fantastic New Year!

Yes it can be all about what we don't have. I do many different things; I would suggest some core yoga exercises. You can go online to find them at iyoga.com or look locally. They really work. But I also use the straight leg exercises too. They trim the abdomen and sculpt the gluts(butt). Good Luck and God Bless, vinnigirl

I never had a butt when I was heavy and now that I am losing weight I'm starting to see one but I want it to be shaped nicely. I do the stair master and the eliptical also working out at the gym they have special machienes that target the gluteal area. These seem to be working, my butt looks better than ever before.
