Question:
I was so close

Im going to have a RNY I went thru everything , but seeing the physiologist. I came down with a very bad ear infection last week. Can you retain water due a ear infection? I'm very swollen , and and can't chew anything or not my ear hurts. I was so close to being just 5 pounds away from my goal weight to have the operation. I gained 7 pounds while being sick. I haven't been able to chew anything. I have been drinking alot of water and, eating yogert. I'm just wondering if my ear infection and, being swollen has something to do with my weight gain. I'm not giving up still drinking my protein shakes, and eating soft things. I should be feeling better the doctor said in 10 days. This could just be water gain due to the infection. Please let me know if you might have gone thru this and what you did. Thanks Theresa L    — treeeza (posted on March 23, 2009)

Yes a lot of people retain water when they are sick and on meds as well! You are STILL so close! Keep up the hard work...You will get there! Good luck!

Hang in there, this will pass. By any chance did the dr put you on a steroid for inflamation? If so, it is the meds for certain. but yes your body can react to infection in many ways. Don't give up. Hoping you feel better very soon and will soon be ready to have surgery. blessings and hugs your way! Cora

Theresa, I'm glad you're still pumping the liquids even though you're swollen. As you know, you could become dehydrated while sick if you don't drink a lot of fluids. This will pass when you're better and you'll drop the weight. Get well, my friend.
