Question:
Any one have a G-tube post op?

I had my surgery about days ago. The G-tube is a crazy thing to get used to. This thing is killing me pain wise, but definately a help to get in meds and liquids and protein. Does the pain stay there for the whole 4-6 weeks? Help!    — lynnredboy (posted on December 27, 2009)

I had a G tube and I thank God I did. My high blood pressure lowered with a decent weight loss the first month and my blood pressure plummeted with it. I used the G Tube to increase fluid intake. That along with a decrease in blood pressure medication made me feel stronger and more able to feel better. I was soooooooooo weak and it was the drop in BP. The ability to use the GTube helped me feel less dehydrated too. At 6 weeks out I had it removed and then BAM i had a UTI. I am almost 8 weeks now and all is cleared up, but the GTube was good for helping me get the fluids in when i was very weak and sick post surgery ....Thanks for asking.

A g tube is a tube they put through your abdomen into your stomach or in this case your pouch they use it to give nourishment fluids and meds to people who cannot have them orally.

I had my g-tube for 6 weeks and it was a pain the whole time. It gets to where it is just uncomfortable after the first couple of weeks, though. I couldn't lay on my left side for the whole six weeks and so it made it hard for me to sleep. It won't hurt at all when they take the tube out, though. The time will go by quickly. Just try to be patient. I know it is hard, but just try.

I had my g-tube due to a complication. (You can read about it on my profile). It was uncomfortable when I first got home from the hospital since I like to sleep on my side. I had it taken out at two months post op. After the first week or so it didn't really hurt unless one of my kids pushed on it. My surgeon teasingly told me I could put suppliments in my tube, but I never did. How long do you have to have it in?

The G-tube is a drainage/intake tube connected to your OLD stomach. You can use it to drain excess fluids and gas and also to feed yourself and give liquid medicine if needed. Is it wrong to push and try and get it out early? It is a love hate relationship! lol
