Question:
My wife has back pain.

My wife has a pain between her shoulders any time she starts to do anything. She says it feels like a knot just below her right shoulder blade. She is a little over a month out from having RNY Gastric Bypass.    — JeffMoats (posted on September 16, 2007)

Hello, It took me 2 weeks to realize that I had not pulled something in my back . The only place I have pain is between my shoulder blades. Also if I eat too much or do not chew well enough-that is where I feel it. I am now 7 weeks out and it it stopped hurting constantly about 2 weeks ago and now is just my 'warning' sign. The pain was quite sharp. I have read other places now that some of us experience our surgery pain here the most. This too shall pass. Christine

I complained of more than usual back pain as well in the surgeon's office and they stated that many people had back pain due to being on the OR table in one position. It does go away with exercise.

I know this is going to sound weird, but sometimes it takes over a month to get rid of all the gas they fill you with for surgery. It always rises to your shoulder blade for some reason. Try exercises and gas x to see if she gets relief.

This is also normal. As a previous poster said, try gas X, and exercise.

Tell her to eat slowly and to take small bites. Sometimes the pain comes from eating too fast. I hope she is not drinking liquids with her meals. That also could be the cause.

You get back pain because, as you lose weight, your muscles are being used differently. It will eventually pass.
