Question:
Does anyone have any good ideas on some soft food to try for my 2nd stage.

I start my second stage, which is just soft foods. And I need some ideas on some meals for soft foods? I'm afraid it is going to be just tuna and cheese for me. Please any ideas would be great. Thank you!    — twinsplusone (posted on October 6, 2008)

Ericka, Chili with or without beans was a soft food for me. You can also do chicken and ground it up a little bit with either mustard or mayo and seasonings. Also, you know those crock pot meals - I cooked those and w/o the potatoes. So try those see how you like them. Take care.

Nadine, I don't know if you'll see this but if you do ... Chili didn't bother your pouch? I'm about five months out now and sometimes I crave it but I am scared to try. Ericka, are you on soft foods as in pureed-only, etc? Otherwise you could try deli meat and cheese rolled together. Refried beans (fat free) with cheese ... Black beans with chicken (I buy the precooked chicken strips) ... I got some veggie "pancakes" from the frozen food section at Whole Foods and I love those ... I eat the potato pancakes and the spinach ones, but they also make zucchini pancakes. I'm sorry ... I know my ideas aren't very creative ...

You may see that you like the more spicy side of life now. I ate lots of chili on my soft diet. My favorite was refried beans, with a dollop of sour cream ff, a spoon full of shredded cheese, and a tsp of hot and spicy salsa! WOW I loved it. Good luck

I just pureed anything I made my family ofr dinner and ate that! Beef was too hard on my pouch for a very long time, so I didn't do much of that til a year out...But any fish is basically soft.....Shrimp cocktail is awesome! I get a fresh platter at Costco for $9.99...It's several ounces and makes several meals for a few days! I used a lot of ground turkey and made taco meat, or fajita flavors...Or I mixed with three cheeses or stuffed peppers. Use plain greek yogurt in place of sour cream (no fat and high protein!) ..cabbage rolls with ground turkey....soups! OMIGOSH...I make all kinds of soups. (More like stews that are thick and hearty) Chili soup, lentil, chicken. garbanzo bean soup w/chicken and veggies...16 bean soup w/lite sausage...kale soup with lentils and spicy ground sausage (skim all fat off top)....hummus with soy crisps...Split pea and ham w/carrots and onions...Go to the dry bean section and pick up several different bags of dry beans...They have recipes on the bags...If you just take a whole chicken and boil with with some veggies you can save the stock for the bean soups...and use the meat too...I do this quite often! I freeze some, use some...The boiled chicken is easy to digest too and make chicken and cheese melts, chicken salad...make a light gravy for the chicken or cover with tomatoe sauce and mozz cheese...Just go to town! Egg salad rolled in a lettuce leaf if you can handle raw veggies...If not just the egg salad on a cracker or just plain even.. Open three differnt kinds of beans (maybe garbonzo, pinto and white beans and some barley and toss with some spices and light balsamic vinegarette dressing for a nice side...add cheese chunks and fine chopped onions and peppers(if you are ready for the raw veggies) Or wait til you are! Still tastes good without...make casseroles with ground chicken, turkey or pork...So many ideas and many are fast and easy! Many recipes can be found just searching for "ground turkey (or whatever meat you like) recipes" ...use light/lean versions and substitutes for heavy fatty ingredients or carbs. I sometimes add a little rice, cous cous or potatoes...But not what I used to use! Just a little for a bite or two.. They are still nutritious if it weren't for the carbs! That's where you have to use those things in moderation! Cottage cheese with fruits...Cottage cheese pureed smooth as silk and add SF jello pudding! YUMMY! Ricotta cheese, mozz and sauce on steamed cauliflower and broccoli (tastes like a veggie lasagna) use a little ground meats in that too if you'd like! You have to eat ...and you have to learn new ways to make food taste good and yet be lean and low carb...A little carbs are not going to make you gain weight! But you do have to watch them...This is forever...don't be afraid to eat...just be smart about it and make it fun! The more fun, the easier the transition and the less likely you'll go back to old bad habits.

liverwurst, or brautwast, whichever is available in your area! Great source of protein, and yet a soft food! Good LUCK!

My doc suggested refried beans, scrambled eggs, and cottage cheese. The joy of actually chewing something after broths, yogurt and liquids was the absolute best!

I guess my doctor and nutritionist were more cautious, because my soft foods were cottage cheese, drippy cream of wheat, thin mashed potatoes, and creamed soups (mushroom, chicken, ect.) I stayed on this diet for two weeks and I am 7 weeks out and I have lost 50 pounds. I have a specific diet to follow for the first 12 weels. I ahve an excellant doctor and an exceptional nutritionist. For the first week, I recieved a daily phone call, than every other day, and now they check in about once a week to see if I have any problems or need any help. I will email you anything you need if you will send me your email address. Mine is [email protected]. I cannot believe you have not had the support you need for your follow-up. Anyone in the Tennessee area---you need to check out Greg Mancini at UT Hospital. These are great people with your health and well-being in mind. You have to be very careful or your opening will not accomidate the foods you eat.

I like to make cottage cheese pancakes. Minc a half of onion and fry it up in 2 tbsps butter. Mix that with 2 eggs, 1 cup cottage cheese, 3 tbsps all-purpose flour, salt, and pepper. Using cooking spray you make them like regular pancakes. They are yummy and really soft, just be careful to not overcook them because then they get a little crispy. I'm 2 months out and I added a little surgar free syrup. 2 pancakes have 98 cal, 6 gr fat, 4 gr carbs, and 8 gr protein. I found the receipe in the Living and Eating Well ater Weight-Loss Surgery book. Great book with lots of receipes.
