Why not ask your Dr if you can take the B12 shot . That's what my sister does....once a month......but some may need it more often. pam/ ftworth ...bandster bites [email protected]

I take mine daily. Yes some can be rather unpleasent though the one I take is a raspberry flavored one that I get from the vitamin shoppe and I love it. If you don't have one near you they have it online as well.

I didn't take it at all when I was first post op...then my dr told me my blood work showed it was falling and to start taking it daily. Now my blood work is showing it's getting high, so I take it Monday/Wednesday/Friday. I take Bariatric Advantage brand it it's not bad tasting...at least to my tongue. : ) Try some other brand and see if it's just the brand you have. Holly

I'd suggest taking the sublingual B12 right away after surgery, not waiting for labs some weeks later. I got mine at GNC. You need to initially take it daily. When lab results come, you can adjust daily levels to 2-3 times per week if B12 levels are high. Labs are the only way to determine how any vitamin is being absorbed by your body. The GNC brand was not gross to me by any means, and dissolved in less than 5 minutes, with no "gross" taste. Tastes change after surgery too, so flavors you liked prior to surgery, may not be your favorite after surgery. DAVE

I have taken 3 different B 12 pills in the past 5 years and none of them has been bad, one didn't have any taste and the other two were flavored berry tastes and are fine. YOu have a bad brand if it is that bad. However, if I need to continue B12 after my supply is gone, I will probably do the once a week shots as they are paid for by my insurance whereas the supplements are not. Lyn

I take a sublingual tab (dot) as they're so small, that's from Wal-mart. It's Cherry flavored and I take 1/day. It's 500mcg and that's all my surgeon said I needed per day. It dissolves fast & it was cheap.... probably $3.97/bottle for 240 mico-lozenges. It's made by Rexall. I can't imagine anyone thinking they tasted bad. In fact, they're so small and dissolve so fast, that I barely know they're there....other than that they taste like a little baby aspirin. Good luck.... Cheryl

I would have your surgeon/nutritionist clarify how often you will need to take your B12. If you cannot find one you like, you can always put it in your protein shake and drink it down. Better than nothing I guess. The important thing is that you are getting it down somehow. Good luck, Dawn Vickers, RN, BLC, CLC

I am a Registered Nurse. You take B12 daily. You can take a pill instead. You do not need sub-lingual, and you do not need injections UNLESS your doctor says you can't get enough orally. Ask your doctor.

If there is a Trader Joe's near you, give their sublingual a try. It quickly dissolves completely and isn't gritty like the others. I drive 2 hours just for that!

My nutritionist said that while you can take it every day, it is only needed weekly!

This is again one of those questions best left to your doctor. Any time you put something into your body without having the right information you could have a problem. Remember to be better safe than sorry.

My doctor said to take it once weekly. I know what you mean about the taste. I made a mistake and chewed it with my multi vitamins and it tasted like poop. You know when the smell gets to your mouth and you can taste it. AWFUL
