Question:
Does anyone 2 weeks out have stomach pain w/things they are eating?

I'm 2 weeks out from a lap RNY, on puree's & it seems everything bothers my stomach. Even liquids. I just feel ishy & fluish, even though I don't have the flu. It's been going on for a week, since my 1st post-op appt. I was okay up until then. I can't really stand to eat because I hate how I feel afterwards. I barely take in any calories, let alone protein. Should I worry about nutrition at this point? Or should I just keep with clear liquids until my tummy settles. Honestly, I feel as if I'm starving, & feel like this isn't improving at all. I contacted the nurse at my surgeon's office and they just tell me that it's typical, to try pepto, or tums, both of which I've tried. I have spasms sometimes in my stomach, as well as just gas pains a lot too. I am concerned that something's not right inside. Am I being paranoid? This is all new to me. I just want to feel good! Try Gas X with Malox. It always helps me. I have 4 years post op. Those first 6 months were not the most pleasant. You will feel better soon. I ate a lot of soup and still do because is seems to do better for me. Good luck!

I am 6 days post op and feel pretty much the same way. It seems that when I do eat (yoguart, sf applesauce, soupe or drink) my gas pains (that is what I think it is) seem to get worse. My nurse said gas-x tabs which I have been eating like candy. I am afraid that I have done to much since surgery but I really don't think so. I hope that someone will post that gives a good explanination as to what this. Take cafre and God bless. I you want to you can e-mail me at [email protected] Mary

I felt pretty icky like that for the first few weeks as well. I didn't eat much because nothing sounded good and I didn't like the way I felt afterward. I am 7 weeks out from lap RYN and am feeling better, but I still get the "bubbleguts" feeling. That's what a friend called them that had this and now I see why! :) At this point, you want to stay hydrated. When I went to my 1st week checkup I was feeling really bad still and the doc told me to focus on my fluid intake, and to go to clear or full liquids if need be. I had to do that for a couple days after I went on soft food @ 4 weeks out and it made a big difference. Just take it easy and sip, sip, sip. I hope this helped some.

Aloha, I'm three weeks out from MGB and feel similar. The second week was actually better but this last week I've been vomiting virtually everything I try to eat. It downs on me that problems began when I was allowed to eat solid foods, but I also began drinking coffee then, too. I've yet to meet with a nutritionist, but I'm going to stop caffeine again and see if that helps. Sorry to hitchhike but I hope some of that helped. Tom

All I can say here is I think this is a normal feeling..I am a bit over 3 yrs post op and remember feeling that way and one day you will wake up and have your appetite back and then will have just the opposite problem of trying to limit what you eat...enjoy your time now, this doesn't last forever...I am going in for a revision on December 12th and can't wait to start feeling like you are again...now my appetite is never ending hunger. Hang in there and enjoy the fast weight loss while you can.

I went through this for six weeks before I had the brains to have the doctor check me for C-Diff(clostridium difficele), an infection that occurs after some hospitalizations. I came back positive and put in the hospital for hydration. after two weeks on treatment, I am able to start eating again slowly. Do yourself a favor and have yourself checked just for safety.

Hi-- I'm 9 days post-surgery and still on clear liquids, so I can't speak to the "soft foods" issue. But I had a lot of nausea the first couple of days after surgery. My standard remedy for that is (plain, unsweetened, warm) mint tea or ginger tea. I drank as much of that as I could and the nausea went away almost entirely. Good luck.

I am 1 month out and just started stage 3=soft foods. I felt as you describe when I started pureed foods, and again since I started the soft foods. My labs were perfect though at my 1 month appointment. I think there is just a lot of adjusting for our systems with every new stage. I have found some things just go down better and are more palitable. I have found on days I just don't like anything I try I consentrate on the protein. I like the muscle milk protein puddings, yoplet lite yogurt, the canned cookies and cream protein shakes I get from bariatriceating.com, and cottage cheese. Hopefully you'll find those things you can tolerate on those icky feeling days. The old pros here who are a year or more out make me feel like it'll all be easier with time.

I am a year post op. I took liquid zatac for the first 3 months. It has to be prescribed and is expensive and that helped me. I was getting pains after I stopped the liquid and my surgeon prescribed a high prescription dose of zatac, I take 1 pill a day and it is like a magic pill, all pain is gone.

I'm two weeks out and feel the same way. The Dr. told me to try tums they don't seem to work. Other than that I'm scared to eat for fear I'll stretch my stomach.

When I feel like that I just try to keep myself hydrated, and don't worry so much about consumption. I would also call my surgeon's office and ask them about any suggestions.
