Question:
5 years kicked me in stomach

I am 6 weeks post op and my 5 year old kicked me in the stomach. I don't want to call the doctor on call. It hurt for a second and now I am fine. Ironically, I feel like I have to go #2. I am not sure which it is. Any thoughts?    — tayee24 (posted on July 16, 2008)

Try to have a BM. If no blood and you feel fine, you should be OK. But why the reluctance to make a free phone call?

My puppy, pretty large, at the time jumped up into my lap while I was in the recliner when I was about 2 weeks out. I was sore and everything turned out fine. I sure do hope that was an accidental kick rather than a wild 5 year old for your sake. Rather than take any chances, perhaps you should give your surgeon a call just to be on the safe side. Good luck, Dawn Vickers, RN, BLC, CLC

Its FREE, when in doubt call. Remember now that you have had GB, you are not the norm. until you figure out your new body/system inside and out. PostOp, Every poke or stare at my belly made me want to have a BM! If no blood or cramps after a few hours, push forward. I made at least a call about every 2 mos. for the first 1.5 years after surgery. Now 3 yrs PostOp RNY, I feel like I know when something is wrong and call the Dr. ASAP. Better safe, than regretting it later.

Call the doc and just tell them what happened so if it gets worse, they know that it's important enough not to wait... My puppy jumped on me the day I got home from the hospital...She was only about 10 lbs...But you drop a 10 lb bag of sugar on your open RNY and Well, it smarts! I was in so much pain anyway, it was hard to tell if the dog make it worse of not! I guess it was okay...It's been 4 1/2 years! LOL I hope you are okay too...Go in if it feels worse though...and don't rough house with the kids for a while! Make them give you hugs and love only for now. No tickles and giggles just yet!

Please never think you are a "pest" to the doc, that's what YOU paid them for. Call just to play it safe, and maybe teach your 5 year old that it is wrong to kick, this could be a problem later for him/her. I do not want to sound like an annoying adult but!
