Congradulations, best wishes for this new journey.I am 7 months out RYN I have lost 125 pounds, first is it head hunger? Drink some water before eating this will help. My stomache makes noises all the time, eat more protein, at 10 weeks I was only eating a couple of bites of food 5 or 6 times daily feeling full, becareful not to over eat getting sick is no fun. Cravings are hard do not give in they get easier:)Eating feeling protein helps alot and remember no drinking while eating it washes your protein through best of luck Tammi

Hi Shelly. Congrats on the surgery. But I agree with the first poster. Probably head hunger and I make noises as well. I was eating very little right after surgery and even today I only eat 3-4 oz - 3 times a day. I started at 237 and am down to 133 with 6 to go.I am 8 months out. Take this time to re-learn how to eat and think differently about food. It is for necessity and not pleasure anymore. Don't attempt sugar, don't give in to desire. Think of all you have done to your body to get past this and use the tool. Good luck to you and God Bless.

I am 8 wks out I only eat 1/4 to 1/2 cup food 3-4 times a day and if I'm not sure if its head hunger or food hunger I drink a protein shake that calms the hunger feeling and the sweet tooth I have a candy bar i bought 4 days ago and still havent touched it it's just nice to know its there and then I think about the dumping and tell myself no way I will leave that candy bar there till it turns white and hard and have to throw it away. How can you eat that much and not get sick I have trouble eating 3 small meals and feeling full e-mail me lets talk [email protected]

I had my RNY 12/8/08, so we are about the same time out. Like the other said, make sure you are eating your protein first. Don't drink any liquid for at least 15 minutes before you eat or at least an hour after. Make sure you chew slow and small bites. The one thing I had to learn(the hard way)is that sometimes the stomach growling is not hunger. Mine tends to make alot of noise after I eat or drink. It is what I always took as hunger, but now know it isn't. You may be grieving losing your "best friend", and thinking about it, also. The therapist where I had my surgery done said that a growling stomach is not a sign of hunger, it is a sign of a well functioning digestive system. Since we are about the same time out from surgery, maybe we can compare notes with what is happening.

I would stay away from the soda because the carbonation could cause your pouch to expand. There are those that would argue this, but I have seen enough research to make me believe that this is possible. If you want to see what I have found about the subject, check out my profile page and look for my post titled "Expanding Stomachs with Carbonation." If you can't find it on the main profile page, look for it in the April 2008 archives. I hope this helps. Hugh

I am also 10 weeks out and while I feel blessed not to have hunger issues, I do still crave certain things-and diet coke is one of them! I have lost 75 lbs and whenever I get this "head hunger" I just think about how far I have come. For the first time I can truly agree with the saying, "nothing tastes as good as being thinner feels!" I never feel any fullness or restriction when I eat (usually 1/2-203 c per meal 3x day) and this is a concern but to combat that I make double sure that I stick to the rules and stop eating when I've reached my limit. I find that keeping busy helps with the cravings. Good luck to you. Kristi

Congrats on your surgery! I am about 10 weeks out as well. My stomach growls all the time, but it is not hungry.......or maybe it's hungry, but I am not. I eat now because I have to. The rest for me is head hunger. My NUT said to eat small bites and chew well for 15 - 20 minutes per meal and then STOP; by that time your pouch will be full even if you think you're not. Remember it's going to take some time to change our old eating habits. Stay away from bad cravings..........you've come too far!! Stop by sometime and let me know how you're doing.! LAP RNY 12/9/08.

I never heard the phrase "head hunger" but like it. I know the only time I feel hunger it's not really hunger so it's all in my head. I too want to warn you about soft drinks. If you do want to drink them - let them sit for 5 minutes to get rid of the bubbles. My surgeon warned me it could expand my pouch. I have a friend who had RNY surgery in 1998 and now weighs more than she did before surgery. I used to watch her drink colas and drink them during meals. So, be careful.
