Question:
please name a few for me
I have had some news from my pcp (who is NOT wls friendly) about boarderline comorbilities(cholesterol and low hemoglobin.) I have incontanance, asthma, and joint and back pain to name a few. can someone please send me a list of comorbids so I know what to write about to my ins. co BCBS of SC point of service. I don't have the support of my pcp so I am doing this by ear. please send as much info as possible. THANKS! — wearings (posted on July 2, 2003)

Get a new PCP! He/she should be helping you! Get a sleep study - find out
if you have sleep apnea. Also high blood pressure, get checked for diabetes
immediately - have them check your A1C it's a simple blood test and can
tell you how well or NOT controlled your blood sugar has been over the last
several months. Get an EKG and a stress test - insist on it! Have you
thyroid checked - simple blood test. Get a chest x-ray - is your heart
enlarged? Probably - most obese people have some enlargement. How are our
periods - irregular? get documentation from your gynocologist.

This site has a great sample letter that lists a lot of the most common
comorbids with statistics and other impressive information. Just click on
"Your Journey," then "Getting Authorization," and
finally "Letter of Medical Necessity." I used this letter as a
basis for my own letters to my surgeon and to the insurance company. I
think it is a great source. Good luck with your journey. I agree that you
need to consider getting a doctor who will support your decision for WLS.
