I was afraid to mention that I had one to my surgeon, finally I thought I should. His words were *no problem,we will fix that right up during surgery*....Doing great and hope you do also

has nothing to do with this surgery. i was told I had one but when the surgeon got in there, i didn't. Anyhow, they fix it while they are doing your surgery. It is a small thing for them to deal with.

I had a hiatal hernia before surgery, and Dr. Steiner fixed it while he was doing my RNY. No big deal!

I had one as well, and they fixed it while doing the surgery... no problem, and two birds with one stone :D

Just like the others I had a pre-existing hiatal hernia that they fixed the same time they performed the lap byspass, the hernia actually helped me get approved for the surgery since my surgeon put the hernia down as the first part of the surgery followed by the gastric bypass. It was like, hey if I am in there anyway I might as well perform a bypass at the same time LOL. I am sure your surgeon will suggest having the hernia repaired at the same time. My hernia was so bad that my surgeon told my family while I was in recovery that the bypass was a piece of cake, it was the hernia that was the hard part. Best of luck! You can do it! - Kim down 137 lbs. 8 months out.

Although I suspected I had a hiatal hernia before I had surgery (daily heartburn/reflux, constipation, bloating, gas, always "full" sensation, basically indigestion hell-on-earth), it wasn't confirmed until after my surgery, and i haven't had ONE DAY of indigestion or heartburn since then. Can I have a hallelujah?! (Open PROXIMAL RNY, 7/7/03, 227/160/132, 5'1")
