I could not tolerate nutri-sweet the first 3 months after surgery(I had a Roux-en-Y).I don't think it is a problem in most people after time, in fact dumping in general goes away in most people after time which scares me. Dumping has been my number one defensive tool I got from this surgery. I have convinced myself that the sweets and fats will always cause it because I don;t want to go back there. If you find you can not tolerate nutri sweet you will survive. Good luck.

Hello I am one year post op. and I do have a sugar problem, but never had a problem with a sugar sub. at all. and you will get over the sugar problem to some degree in time, I have found that sugar for foods, and tea or coffee has gotten to be ok as long as I do not over do the sugar it is not to much of a problem at this point.

I couldn't tolerate nutrasweet either. Since my choices were broth (which sent me running down the hall) or juices with sugar, but diluted severely, I drank water and apple juice. I couldn't have the s/f jello or popsicles. And didn't even try for years. Nutrasweet was a migraine trigger for me. Suddenly, I was OK! I could have it again. I think that the sleep apnea associated with my morbid obesity caused the migraines, but the NS aggravated 'em. Without the wt, I have no more apnea, so no more migraines. I have now drunk ALL the diet pop on the West Coast to make up for it! Also, there are LOTS of sugar subs available now that weren't even in 1994. Let me know if you're curious! Congrats on your surgery!
