Question:
Those of you who had hernia and or T/T...

I will be having hernia repar, T/T and gall bladder removal the 25th of this month. I seemed so at piece with my RNY. Did you ever feel like you were "pressing your luck?" I am not terribly frightened, but wonder if there is less to worry about with these procedures in general, compared to a distal RNY.    — Marie A. (posted on February 11, 2003)

Marie, I felt that way too. That I was pressing my luck. My gallbladder was taken out a few years before my open RNY. I had a Full TT with hernia and muscle repair 18 days ago. I was so happy to wake up from surgery and not have any complications. As far as these surgeries being less to worry about, I dont think so. I mean you are obviously much healthier now then when you had your RNY which is a great benefit, but we still run the risks that come with any type of operation such as blood clots, pneumonia, coming out of anestethia, etc... If you did fine with all of those things the first time around then you probably will this time either. I know it's scary. I felt like I needed to have my RNY to save my life, where as I didnt need these surgeries. I think it's natural how you are feeling and just like your RNY you will come through with flying colors. Good Luck

I am going through the same thing right now. I am in the process of scheduling a tummy tuck to coincide with the gallbladder removal I need. I find the decision more stressful as well. I think that I wanted to have the WLS for so long, I was more at peace with my decision. I was so unhappy and so unhealthy, part of me felt that if I didn't make it, well... the quality of my life was so compromised anyway. Now I am thinner and so full of life and energy. This surgery has just brought itself on (without my request for the most part). I feel as though I have more to lose as my new life has just started. I just remind myself that the odds of everything being fine are much more likely than anything bad happening. Good luck.

Say your prayers, keep active, move your toes.
