Question:
Does anyone know how Dr. Dirk Rodriguez of Palestine, TX.

Does his Lap RNY. I was told that he does several small incisions, plus 1 large one 4 to 5 inches long. Is this true? Would that still be considered a Lap RNY or an Open RNY? I called his office to ask and someone there said that it just depends. Depends on what? Was not given a direct answer. I have an appointment with him on the 29th., but I do not want to waste his or my time if that is how he does his surgery. I want a Lap RNY with only the small incisions. So, if anyone has gone to him or know of someone that has, please let me know what type of RNY he performed on you and incision wise also. Thank You my email is: [email protected]    — Nora R. Hi Nora, I live in Houston. Although I do not know your doc it has been said to me many times, ANY LAP that has possible complications DURING surergy they will open you up and perform an open, I'm asumming that's what they mean. My pcp told me to get a LAP surgeon rather than a bariatric doc. to perform the surgery as they would be more skillful Good Luck!

Nora - the lap RNY does have several incisions. I'm sure the receptionist didn't want to answer your questions because there are various factors that will determine if your doctor can do a lap or open RNY. Open is one long incision down your body - they literally open your body. Lap means that they use small instruments that allow them to enter your body invarious places to do the procedure. And if the start lap and need to go to open they will regardless of what surgeon you use.
