Question:
Has anyone experienced back pain 9 months post op?
I am 9 months post op and have been experiencing back pain for no apparant reason. Has anyone else experienced this with their surgery? It seems to be on my right side right above my waist. — clara M. (posted on November 7, 2000)

Hi I am 7 months post op and have experienced back pain ever since my
surgery. It is so bad that I can hardly bend over. It started in my right
side around my rib cage in the back below my shoulder blade. The pain is
so intense that I am on pain medication. The pain has started to move to
my left side some. My PCP thought in the beginning that it was from being
on the operating table for 5 1/2 hours and from them messing with my
ribcage. Who know all I know is that each day I hope that it will get
better. Good Luck.

Barb is giving you good advice here if your gall bladder was not removed at
the time of your weight loss surgery. If gall bladder can be ruled out may
I suggest that you see a theraputic massage therapist? I had quite a bit
of pain as my body adjusted to losing 125 pounds and a massage therapist
was very helpful to me. Best of luck to you as you continue on your path
to good health.

Besides going to the Dr. Which you should, and also giving great
consideration to the gallbladder ref. Another thing my Dr. told me is that
since we have been greatly overweight for so many years, our fat has
cushioned our bones, now that so much weight has been taken away our
"frame" is carrying the actual load, and the body is wondering
what the heck is going on. You could be experiencing more pressure on your
bones now, and can actually feel it. But PLEASE do go and see your Dr.
