Question:
Am I on a plateau or have I stopped losing? I had lap RNY 12/17/01.

I started at 253.5. I now weigh 160. I am 5'3". I have been flucuating between 158.5 and 161 for about 3 weeks. I have never really been on a plateau -- maybe a day or two but never longer. I take a protein supp daily. I take my vitamins daily. I drink 100+ ounces of water daily. I exercise 4 times a week plus I walk. Could this be the end of my weight loss? I still need to lose 30-35 pounds. I am doing everything I am suppose to do. I may be guilty of a few too many carbs. Is this a plateau? Any thoughts and/or suggestions are welcomed. Thank you in advance.    — Tammy B. (posted on July 8, 2002)

I too have wondered similar thoughts as I am sure many before us have. Everyone is so different and you may already have begun losing again by the time you read this. My loss was consistent up to month 7 and then it has been slow process, a plateau, a trickle! Ha! My goal weight is listed as 135, but if I can get to 145 I will be pleased. I started out 6-19-01 at 266 and am down to 153. I think that I can lose some more, especially if I get the abdominiplasty and breast reduction approved! But even if I don't or can't get closer to 145, I have lost about 90% of my excess weight and I think I should be glad of that. I think those of us who started out as relative lightweights have such a different pattern of loss! Although I do see those folks getting down to 120 or so! Hmmm! Best Wishes!

I'm not an expert, especially since I am only 5 weeks post-op, but i think it's just a plateau. Some have them for months! You have my stats, I was 250, and am 5'2. You are 5'3, you have the potential to lose more weight. How much protein do you get daily? I know my surgeon wants me to get atleast 80 grams for the first year. he said 100 would make my weight loss increase maximum, but that seems difficult to me, but if it is possibile to you, then do it, b/c he said protein is everything to weight loss! The exercise you are doing seems great. even if you don't lose more, 160 is great, look how far you have come!! You are doing fine! Goodluck! :)
