Question:
Approximately, how long must I wait for surgery after Insurance has pre-approved?

My Dr. said I have met all the Insurance requirements....been on a diet and excercise program for over a year, co-morbidities, ect. After approval what will be expected of me? How long before surgery actually takes place? Thanks! Katherine    — Katherine G. (posted on September 22, 2003)

Hi Katherine, after you are approved by your insurance company, scheduling will depend on your Dr's schedule and the hospital schedule. I had mine done a few weeks after approval. My sisters Doctor has a 4 month wait, I have a friend who has waited 8 mos. Best regards,

Katherine, If you've already met all of your doctor's requirements there is no need to wait. My ins approval came on 9/24 and I'm having surgery on 9/30! Been dieting for years (and could prove it), have many comorbidites, and went immediately to the pulmonologist & psych. It's taken me about 5 1/2 weeks from the time I called to make an appt to surgery date - 3 1/2 from 1st consult. This of course depends on your doctors schedule and how far ahead he schedules - I know some schedule months in advance. Mine doesn't like to make people wait - figures we've already waited enough! Good Luck. Rena
