A friend of mine had it done (do a search in Ohio on "Mikala B"
and last I checked is down 90 pounds and doing fine. I think insurance
companies deemed it experimental and stopped covering it. I believe he is
doing it but only on a self-pay basis. Check out his website www.clos.net
Good luck!

He is not currently performing this surgery because he is under
investigation for questionable billing practices. His hospital waived his
priveleges and he has been dropped by insurance companies as a provider.
Yes, they dropped him, not the other way around. BCBS of NC deemed his
surgery as investigational because he billed them as RNY's when he was
actually doing the loop bypass which is NOT the same. His surgery is not
safe. Run a search online and find the web site of one of his former
patients who had life-threatening complications. You will see that this
surgery is an abandoned old surgery, the Billroth II. It is a loop bypass
that loops the bile from the duodenum to the new stomach pouch; bile is
NEVER supposed to be in the stomach. His modified stomach pouch
configuration makes it easier, not more difficult, for bile to bathe in the
stomach and eat away the lining of the stomach. It also flows backward in
the intestine, which means partially digested food comes back into the
stomach pouch, yuck. Most of his post-op patients who currently have no
problems must live with the thought that the bile in their stomach could
eventually cause cancer; bear in mind, most people don't have symptoms when
they are having bile reflux. Cancer deaths 25 years after this procedure
was created were what prompted its being abandoned in the first place. I
believe this surgery is not a good thing and the surgeon is questionable.

His surgery is being investigated. Like the above person stated, his
procedure is dangerous due to the possibility of cancer down the road.
