Question:
Has anyone tried Juice plus vitamins?

Hi all- My OB sells a vitamin called Juice plus. Well, his wife might sell them, actually, but they are for sale at his office. He says they are great, but I want to do a little more research. Are these appropriate for post-op use and has anyone tried them? Thanks for reading this! :)    — Write L. (posted on November 27, 2002)

I was all over the Juice Plus website and couldn't find any specific detail on what's in it other than that it has the vitamin C of 4 oranges and the beta caratine of 3 carrots and "other essential vitamins and minerals"...the fact I couldn't find it bothers me! Anyway, if you want to explore thier website copy and paste this to your browser and good luck! https://www.juiceplus.com/tour.php?PHPSESSID=7cd5c48569d743f6b8e061295a179d55

i bought the Juice PLus. Sells for over a 100.00 dollars and I bought it because I am a post op. It is dried compressed fruits and vegtables. You mihgt be able to get the same nutrients elsewhere but I don't think in the concentrations. Happy Thanksgiving

Actually I have two bottles sitting in front of me -- I have done extensive research on the Juice Plus - because I don't like vegtables too much (at least the good kind) and this little magic pill has everything in it we need! I even contacted the manufacturer (there is a email address on the website) about the statistics of WLS patients taking the pill -- they don't have any as of this time - however, they wrote me to tell me they were indeed selling to tons of patients -- this pill has everything in it...in dehydrated form - and the website DOES have a listing of the ingrediants on it -- There is a vegatable formula and a fruit formula ( you take them together) and if you buy them online - they are NOT $100.00 - please go check it out www.juiceplus.com -- I am NOT a sales representative or work for them at all -- but I do think this is a wonderful way to get all the benefits from vegatables when we can't eat all of that stuff in the qty's we need too. In our support groups in Houston - we have had LOTS of talks about this pill becuase I brought the subject up--- asking the same thing you did. Only to find out that there are lots of people who swear by it! SO do the research - this is a good deal really! Good luck!

Juice Plus is WONDERFUL! I have been using it pre-surgery and post-surgery. I am currently 3 weeks post-op. The juice plus is wonderful especially now because we aren't able to eat as much as before and this allows us to get in all those nutrients our bodies need. They are also great for people who have not had the surgery, of course. In fact, my husband (who is a doctor) and I are distributors of Juice Plus and we recommend it to all of our patients. If anyone is interested in learning more about the product or wants to place an order, I would be happy to help them! If you bought the same amount of fruits and veggies in a store as the amount you get in the Juice Plus, you would pay $8 dollars a day!!!! The cost of Juice Plus is under $40 a month and is the best investment we have ever made -- replaced all of our vitamins! For more information, feel free to contact me. [email protected]

I wanted to add a few comments from my husband, the doctor. Medical studies have shown that most diseases like heart disease, cancer and strokes are caused by a lack of eating fruits and vegetables. It is recommended that you get 5-9 servings of fruits and vegetables each day. Most people don't get this either because of inconvenience or cost. With Juice Plus, you get 17 servings of fruits and vegetables each day and it only costs $1.30 a day. It is superior to produce you find in grocery stores, because with Juice Plus you are getting the highest nutrient value from the produce since it is picked vine-ripened and juiced immediately. It is the most researched product on the market today and cancer institutes, hospitals and universities are all doing independent studies on it. Since the size of the stomach, after weight loss surgery, has decreased in size so much, it may be nearly impossible to get in the recommended 5-9 servings a day. Juice Plus eliminates that problem. Juice Plus cannot be purchased in stores. To obtain additional information, it is suggested to contact a distributor directly since we have additional research and information that may be helpful in your decision process. If we can be of any help to you, please contact us. [email protected]

Juice Plus is EXCELLENT!! If you are not an avid veggie or fruit eater, you can get get ALL of your requirements from veggies AND fruits in addition to your vitamins and minerals in this product. I'm considering being a distributor myself because of the reviews and testimonials!!

Heidi - Isn't it unethical for a physician to recommend a product in which he has a financial interest???? JR

Too funny. Just out of curiosity I looked at Heidi's profile page and right off the bat she's shilling Juice Plus along with "her husband, the doctor" Sheesh.

Thanks for the answers, guys. I found it for over $100 too-which seems way too expensive for vitamins. It really sounds too good to be true, so I'm going to TRY to find out more information-like what exactly is in it- and talk to my pharmacist. I trust my pharmacist because his degree is in pharmacology. Herbs and natural medicines and stuff are ok, I guess, but I really want hard evidence before I rely on this stuff for vitamins after surgery. So far, I see nothing that indicates that this stuff would be safe to rely on. Thanks for all of the input and I will post if I can find out anything else besides the "hype" out there! :)

I went to a doctor once and all he could hawk er umm Talk about was medi-fast and this other liquid diet stuff he sold for Amway. I wanted a diet of healthy foods, not liquid stuff. Really annoyed me and seemed very unethical. Sad that someone is using their profile to "sell" a product and profit off of us (not to go unmentioned that the comments from her doctor were copied and pasted directly from her profile page).

I was uncomfortable too, Ruth, with my doctor trying to sell me vitamins. I know doctors have a medical degree and everything, but they do NOT have a degree in pharmacology. And John, it seems unethical to me as well for doctors to do this. I really don't enjoy "being sold to" period. To me, it feels like a "fake" relationship if someone turns out to be trying to sell something to me. Then I'm always questioning their intentions to myself when I'm with them. But I was curious to see if anyone else had heard of these vitamins, because it was my OB selling them, after all.

I was amazed to discover that nutrition is an "optional" class for doctors in med school. Blew my mind! Many haven't a clue.

I use the Juice Plus pills and also drink the powdered "Complete" mixed with crystal lite stawberry-kiwi. I am 3 months post-op and have lost 65 pounds to date. Yes it is about $100 dollars, but that is a 4 month supply. Yes I am a distributor, but I don't sell to anyone else but myself. By being a distributor I get $20 back from each sell I make to myself. I take the fruit and vegetable tablets daily, but not in place of my chewable vitamins. By he way Centrum-Kids are better than Flintstone. You only need one Centrum. Would I sell to any of you on this web site? Probably not! It would be a case by case basis. I don't think ethics has anything to do with the doctors selling them in their office. Maybe they just think they are good for their patients. I do know that there is no way to get the proper amount of fruits and veggies after gastric by-pass if you try to eat them. This stuff works for me if you skeptics do want to believe it I don't care. Sometimes you people are to quick to judge others. Your attitude sucks. I know that you will have bad things to say about me, but I don't care. You do what works for you and I will do what works for me. By the way your pharmacist will tell you that he wouldn't recommend any kind of supplement that wasn't prescibed by an MD. Your smart you can figure out why!

Thanks, John. What a great post! I'm really tempted to print this out and send it to my OB!! I'm not going to dignify Randy's post with a response.

Hi, I buy a product that I think is way better, it has a lot more nutrients in it. http://www.risingstarlc.com/perfect.htm . It's made by Garden of LIfe and called The Perfect Food. It's available in Tablet and powder. I bought the powder but couldn't tolerate the taste.... but if you like green veggies you could probably drink it, but the tablets are ok. However I'm preop (open rny on Weds!), so I'm not sure how the tablets will work post op!

I was going to just bite my tongue, but after all of yor posts, I couldn't. Thank you everyone for being so polite with your plethora of comments. I cannot believe how rude people can be. I was merely offering my comments and suggestions... isn't that what this message board is for? I apologize if I was offending anyone by offering my input. I simply was giving my opinion just like everyone else, and thought that the credibility coming from my husband would be a major point of interest. I'm not trying to shove a product down anyones throat, but when I am excited about a product like I am about Juice Plus, I feel it is UNETHICAL if I DON'T share. We don't require our patients to try the product, we only offer a suggestion... just like I did here. Thanks JR for your post, but I don't agree with you. Oh wait, I'm not allowed to have my own OPINION, am I?!?!

John: I will send you a separate email with my explanation to you. If you would like to share it with anyone else, go right ahead!

Heidi - I am not going to bore people with propaganda provided by Juice Plus. I deleted your e-mail. You don't have to explain anything to me. However, if one of your husband's patients complains to the AMA, then he may have some explaining to do to them...JR
