Question:
My dr. informed me I also need gallbladder/hernia repair

I am having the lap wls, which requires overnight hospital stay. But my doctor is also removing my gallbladder and fixing a large hernia at the same time. Does anyone know if I will have to stay in the hospital longer?    — penelope R. (posted on January 9, 2004)

I don't know about the hernia repair or the gall bladder because I haven't had any problems with either of these, but I stayed in the hospital 2 nights for my Lap RNY. I would think that since you are having more done, you will be in the hospital for 3-4 days. You shouldn't feel bad about staying there, you need to be monitored closely by medical professionals so nothing goes wrong without them knowing it. God Bless. Tina RNY 10/6/03, 275/214/155

I had hernia repair and gallbladder removal when I had my surgery. However, I had open RNY instead of lap. I'm not sure if your stay will be longer because of the additional surgery. I know that mine wasn't, but I'm not sure if it was because it wasn't lap so I was expecting to be in the hospital 5 days anyway. RNY 8/5/03 330/236/?

I haven't had my WLS yet , not scheduled till 5th of Feb. But I had my gallbladder removed 4 years ago and stayed in the hospital overnight. It was done laproscopy. I can tell you that my Bariatric Surgeon said that I will be staying in the hospital at least three days after my surgery because there are several test that must be run to make certain that everything went ok with the WLS. I know he said they would be checking for leaks all three days. One day's stay in the hospital for WLS sounds very odd to me, especially since you are having SO much done at once. Good Luck to you and keep us informed.
