Question:
Anyone get migraines worse after surgery?

I have a friend who is having horrible migraines since her surgery, which she only had occasionally before. Is there any literature out that that might address this issue? I can't find anything myself. Thanks. Yahna    — Yahna S. (posted on August 3, 2003)

I had a terrible problem with migraines right after surgery. It lasted a couple of months and then disappeared. Someone suggested that it was because of the rapid hormonal changes our bodies are undergoing. Fortunately, after a couple of months the migraines disappeared again and no more problems. Good luck. My sinus and migraine problems have lessened since surgery. Sometimes I think I am just ignoring them more since the ibuprophen is not an option on a routine basis. Tylenol has always been useless to me.

My migraines have gone crazy since my surgery 5/29/03!! Sometimes I think there is hardly a day that I DON'T have a migraine. I always had them when my hormones were out of whack and guess what goes out of whack after the surgery? You guessed it. Seems our fat cells store all kinds of hormones and when we lose this weight, the hormones are released? At least that is what I have read...sooooo here I am in misery and half blind most of the time getting my generic stadol nasal spray refilled so I can function. I also try to ignore the pain, but sometimes after a few days you just cannot do that. And, that nasal spray is so nasty you really don't want to use it. Also, it CAN be addicting if you are prone to that. I am not and only use it as a last resort, but, that is also bad pain management. Good luck to your friend. She should talk to her doctor or a good neurologist to get help with her migraines. Neurologists are the best to help with them. I know mine is.~Lise

There is dental appliance out now that prevents migraines. Go to www.headachehope.com. You can find a dentist near you who can fit you with the NTI appliance. Truly, it is a miracle for the ast majority of patients.
