Question:
Will Aetna USHealthcare cover the BPD/DS?

I live in Phila.,PA and am convinced that the BPD/DS is the way to go for me. I am busily lining up my pre-op testing and we have yet to apply for approval. With a BMI of 60+ I'm pretty sure that approval for the VBG or RNY would not be a problem, but am wondering about the duodenal switch. I have Aetna HMO and unfortunately it states in the obesity coverage that BDP/DS and VGB will not be covered by Aetna, only RNY. It states that the BPD/DS is too new of a procedure. Maybe if you have Aetna PPO it would be covered.

I have Aetna PPO and was covered for a DS by Dr. Rabkin on 11/28/00

I have Aetna QPOS and I was approved for the BPD/DS with no problem.
