Question:
How can I get Kaiser SSF to allow me to have surgery through Pacific Bariatrics?

I'm approved by Kaiser for surgery and thought I could go to Pacific Bariatrics in San Diego as they contract with Kaiser. I'm ready to fly to San Diego for a surgeon consult but now have been told that Kaiser SSF needs to refer me directly to Pacific Bariatrics. Both I and PB have requested approval with no response as yet. Has anyone been able to do the above?    — Susan B. (posted on April 12, 2002)

Hi, I had surgery at PB, after being referred by Kaiser. The South San Francisco committee, has a contract with Pacific Bariatric, and you will probably get a call, from SSF asking if you would agree to fly out for your surgery to San Diego. Please e-mail me, as there is a meeting in Stockton, Ca for folks who have questions about surgery. One of the ladies there was also approved by Kaiser, and had surgery by Dr. Leo Murphy. Basically it is a waiting game. Keep calling SSF Kaiser, weekly, so they don't forget your name, and your willingness to go to San Diego. It took aprox 1 month from the date that I recieved my approval letter for surgery, that I was asked if I'd be willing to go to PB. Good Luck.. Sherry
