Question:
Help!!! I think I was pregnant during surgery

OK, this is sort of embarrassing but need some really good advise right now. I think I may have been pregnant during surgery and had a miscarriage after because I had discharging brown blood from the vagina. I took 2 pregnancy test from the DR office which was required to have surgery done but both came out negative. What I want to know Is it possible to have blood come out from the vagina as a result from the surgery?    — Lovett (posted on April 22, 2002)

It is VERY common for women to experience their period right after the surgery even if you weren't due. So I wouldn't worry about it unless there was a great deal of pain and clotting. In that case visit your GYN to make sure all is well.

I had the same thing happen to me but no chance I was pregnant. I think it's from the shock of the surgery.

I had the same experience despite the fact that I am physically unable to get pregnant and I had my period the week before surgery. Messed up menstrual cycles are a very common side effect of surgery.

I had the same experince even though it is physically imposible for me to be pregnand and I have not had a monthy for about 2 years lol . I was told that this was from surgery .

I had the same type of period you described right after surgery - with the brown blood. It was as if my rusty pipes were being cleaned out (: I was definitely not pregnant. Since that time, my periods have been more normal. I had a miscarriage once and the blood was bright red, not brown.

I have also had a miscarriage, and the blood was bright red, not brown. When I was pregnant with my daughter, I had some brown spotting, and was told by my OB/GYN that brown blood is old blood, and not to worry about it. I think your body was probably just getting rid of the old blood.

You are so perfectly normal! The period we get the day after surgery was from the shock or trauma of having a surgery. I then proceeded to have my regular scheduled period 2 weeks later! thank you! I am 4 months,1 week out and all of my periods after my surgery have been dark in color and this last one was almost black by day 3. I think our body is changing so fast that our hormones can't keep up.
