Question:
What daily total amount of food should I be eating at 6 months out?

I lost 50 pounds the first 4 months after surgery and have not lost any more. I had surgery 6 months ago. I want to know how many meals a day I should be eating and exactly what amount at each meal should I be eating? I need help. Thanks, Pat    — Pat G. (posted on May 7, 2002)

Hi Pat. I saw your question and thought I'd give it a shot. I am also 6 months out. I have lost 79 lbs. so far. Here's what I'm thinking. MAYBE you're not eating enough. My nutritionist told me I was the type who needed to eat every three hours or so. Plus, I never weigh myself, maybe about once a month, that way, I'm not disappointed when the scale doesnt move. I started out at 286. I'm half-way there. Hang in there. I know it's hard getting the liquids and protein in, but I have resigned myself to the fact that's is a MUST for optimum results. Plus the vitamins are so important. You are probably just a slower loser, and we all know we can't compare our numbers with others.

I'm 6 months out as well. I've lost 85 pounds so far. I eat 3 meals a day and an occasional snack. I try to take in 1000 calories a day since I still need to lose another 20 pounds.

I'm 7.5 months out. I don't know my caloric intake...but I can tell you that I eat 3 meals a day and an occassional snack. I got one of those food measurers (brand new at a garage sale---saw the same one at Walgreens!). I weigh my food. Some days I can eat 4 oz. Others I can eat a little less...on the days right before my period, I COULD eat 4.5 - 5 oz...but I don't let myself. I drink as much iced tea, caffiene free diet soda, water--hell even diet (non decaf) soda from time to time. <br> Personally, I would suggest hitting the drug store, getting one of those food scales, start measuring your food. You could do like me and eat 3, 4 oz. meals. Or you could do like others and do 6 1oz. meals. Good Luck, I hope your weight loss jumpstarts for you!~

I am almost 6 months out and I have lost 98lbs. I eat 3 meals a day and I have 1 snack mid-afternoon. I do not eat beef, pork, bread, fried foods or sweets. I stick to drinking water and so far, that has worked great for me. I have about 30 more pounds to go and I plan on eating healthy for the rest of my life. I have been given a new start and I am going to do the best that I can with the new weight loss tools that I have been given. Good luck to you!

My suggestion is that you try to locate a dietician that is very familiar with your surgery. The center that I am going to to have my surgery includes a dietician and physiologist, for a one time $250.00 fee, that they require you have or you can not have surgery there. I just went to their nutrition seminar with the dietician, and I would never have been able to do this on my own after she told me all the ins and outs of the post-op diet. They are there when ever I have questions for the rest of my weightloss journey, which really doesn't end even after you lose most of your weight that first year, and they'll be there then too.

I am six months post-op myself and have lost 137 lbs. I have regular sessions with my dietician. I recieve a list with the foods I can eat and the portion size. Currently, I eat all forms of protien (1-3 oz), salad (1/2 cup), veggies (1/8 - 1/4 cup) and fruit (no citrus). Stay away from starches (bread, pasta, potatos, and rice). In addition, I workout 6-7 days a week for 2 hours a day at my gym. You may want to get a personal trainer to help you get motivated.
