Question:
I am looking for a doctor in San Antonio, other than Dr. Selinkoff or Dr. Pilcher
I live in Austin and looking for a doctor close by. I have heard than Dr. Selinkoff and the other surgeons in that office are great, however, they can't even see me until 1/05...I am not willing to wait that long....Anyone with any suggestions???? — Julie D. (posted on December 27, 2002)

OMG!!!! PLEEEZE TELL ME YOU DON'T MEAN JANUARY 2005??? I LIVE NEAR AUSTIN
AND AM JUST STARTING TO LOOK FOR A SURGEON IN THE CEN-TEX AREA. WENT TO A
MEETING AT SCOTT & WHITE IN TEMPLE, BUT THERE WERE 200-300 PEOPLE AT
THE MEETING, THE STAFF SEEMED TO HAVE "ATTITUDE", THE POUCH THEY
CREATE IS ONLY 15CC (1 TABLESPOON) AND THEY WANT YOU TO EXERCISE ONE HOUR
EVERY DAY!!! SOOOO, I'M STILL LOOKING! I JUST CANNOT BELIEVE THAT THERE
ARE NO BARIATRIC SURGEONS IN AUSTIN!!!

When I was researching my surgery, I was given the same time period from
those Dr's offices. I decided to have a VBG instead and found the only
surgeon in SA that does that is Dr Michael Walters. Wonderful Dr. Check
him out. His waiting period is only a couple of months.

I just wanted to let you know that there is s surgeon in Victoria, Tx. I'm
not sure if that is too far for you or not. He is wonderful. Dr. B. Dean
McDanials. He is with the Crossroads Surgical Associates. He has been
getting most of his patients in for consultation and surgery within just a
couple of months. If you want more info. email me and I will email back

I had surgery in San Antonio Tx with a group from University Hospital. My
Surgeons name was Dr. Wayne Schwesinger. He did an Open RNY on me on Feb
22,2002 and I have lost 125 lbs, no longer on high blood pressure meds or
insulin. I was also devastated when I was told the PIlcher group could not
see me til late 2004. I was very happy when I found out about the univ
hospital group of surgeons. I found out through a local Yahoo support
group. You can join that group at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/OSSG-SA/.
The main number to dr Schwesingers secretaty ro schedule an appt is
210-567-2164 her name is Rollette. The main group number is 210-567-5070.
I was given an appt only about a month after my call, I believe their wait
time is still only a couple of months as compared to years for the other
group. PLease feel free to read my profile for more info. and write me
directly too although I am not on that regularly right now during the

Hi - I also live here in San Antonio , as stated previously by Rosemary ,
Dr. Pilcher's wait just for a consult is in Jan. 2005 . I can't believe
someone can wait that long , not me . I have an appointment with
Dr.Kazantsev for May ,2003 . He is in the same group as Dr. Schwesinger . I
am going to call and see if it makes a difference as to who is seen , to
get in any sooner . Also to get put on a list to be moved up , if someone
cancels . the #'s I have are 210-592-0400 & 210-592-0207 , I have
called several surgeons today , to check if they do the surgery and they
don't . This is about the soonest for a surgeon here in San Antonio .If you
have better luck , please post it .....

Apparently, If you can get a doctors referral from a doctor that knows Dr.
Pilcher, you can get pushed to the head of the line. That's what happened
to my cousin. She was told the same thing couldn't get in until a later
date. Then she went to her gynocologist who knows Dr. Pilcher and next
thing you know she got a consultation. I think her gyno was Dr. Farhart.
