Hi Angela, From what I understand, hair loss is associated with the amount of protein you're getting.

There's a ton of info in the library. You can look up hair loss. It can be caused by lack of protein, lack of certain vitamins, the trauma of surgery, the anesthesia. There are recommendations, but I did them all (protein, vitamins, nioxin) and still lost lots of hair so it just depends.

From day one I used nioxin shampoo and cream rinse, however, at my 3 month check-up, my hair was starting to fall out. The nutritionist told me to increase my vitamin to 3 a day versus 2 a day, and my surgeon said to add biotin and zinc, so I did all three and like magic my hair stopped falling out.

Angela, I made sure (I am male) that I always got more than enough protein in my diet. This kept me from having hair loss, but I also used Rogain for the start (I had some male pattern hair loss anyway) and I thought "what the heck, Rogaine won't hurt.) In fact I ate so much extra protein that I had an increase in body hair all over and the Rogain helped my male patter hair loss also. I hope this helps your question. I am seven months post op and have lost 113 pounds.

I have faithfully worked at getting plenty of protein, I take my vitamins everyday, take a hair and nails vitamin, use shampoo and conditioner formulated to prevent hair loss, and also use Rogaine. Yep, you guessed it. My hair is falling out anyway. So, I think sometimes no matter what we do, we're going to lose some hair. My hair is very fine and thin so hope it stops soon or it will be a wig for me. I don't mind though, I'd rather be a bald skinny lady than a fat lady with nice hair!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

From month 3 - 8 I lost at least 2/3 of my hair. I have a little scrawny ponytail now! I tried it all - extra protein, skin hair & nails, nioxin, zinc, magnesium, biotin it still fell out! I even bought a wig for backup! I am happy to say that it finally did stop and I have lots of little baby hairs coming back. I've read that hair growth goes in cycles anyway - q 3-4 months or so, but I had 5 months of it.
