Question:
Help!!!!!!! Has anyone in Calif. bought ins just to have surgery.

Im having a breakdown trying to get insur. I have the chance to accept cobra but its with Kaiser(Need I Say More) plus cobra is expensive. I have applied for blue cross and they turned me down because of weight which is 229 and a previous back problems. Im no stuck and dont know where to look now. They offered me MRMIP(major risk) but said it could take up to a year to get on the list. I need to know if anyone else has bought this ins. and did it take a year. Since my ins. with Kaiser ended with my job on 5-1-01 I need to hurry and purchase Ins. so that they can waived the preexisting clause. Can anyone give me feed back on what to do next.    — [Anonymous] (posted on June 3, 2001)

I hate to burst your bubble on this, but if california is anything like Texas...you are not gonna find anyone to give you individual health insurance. I Know I looked for 4 months every single day..I have talked to every insurance company out there. No one would cover me...I was over everyones weight limit. It was very hard for me, its very frustrating when you cant get insurance just because you are overweight. I mean I am healthy except just fat..and no insurance company wants anything to do with you. In order to get insurance, I had to change jobs that offered it, so now I have to wait for it to kick in in August. It is with Aetna, so I hope there wont be any problems with them. I dont mean to frustrate you, but maybe a new job will offer you insurance. its a skinny mans world for sure!

Hi, I agree with the previous poster. I would at least get on the Kaiser while you can. At least that's guaranteed. You don't want to be going around without insurance. How long do they give you to decide? If it's 30 days, you'd better get on it. The laws are strict. I live in CA and have Kaiser Northern CA. I fully expect to be approved for the surgery, as I now meet their requirements being just dxed with sleep apnea. Yes, Kaiser requires you to see a dietician and have a psych eval. and attend classes, but it is worth it in the end. Hugs, Joy
