Question:
Hi , Everyone! my questions is about purchasing ins.

I tried to purchase a Indiv.Plan and was turned down do to their underwriting. They said that because I have a back problem that they can't take me because their guidelines for a back problem is no more than six months and mine was longer and my weight is 220 and their wieght guideling is 180 for 5'4, but I thought that they can't turn you down if you had prior coverage within 63 days. Im I mistaking the "pre existing clause" for something else. Does that not apply? By the way I live in Northern Cali.    — [Anonymous] (posted on June 11, 2001)

I had the same problem when I applied for an individual insurance plan. However, I was approved 2 weeks later by 3 other insurance plans. The SECRET is to apply during the open enrollment period. They are usually during the month of June. Atleast it is here in the state of Maryland. Call some insurance cos. and see when there open enrollment period is. They will not turn you down then because pre existing conditions are not looked at. Hope this helps. Good Luck, Darline
