Question:
What could be causing this back pain?
I have been having severe back and abdominal pain for over a week now. I had my gallbladder out on Tuesday, and the pain returned yesterday. Does anyone have any idea why I would still be having back and abdominal pain during/after I eat? — Christine L. (posted on May 17, 2002)

Hi,
I think you should call the doc if what you are feeling
is similar to the gallbladder pain that (I assume) you
have had in the past. Some small stones or sludge could
be lodged in the duct...even if it's nothing... it would
be worth it to find out.
Best wishes and feel better.

It could also be a kidney stone. I know my back hurt terribly first when I
had one, and then later the side of my lower abdomen hurt more.

Please let me know what you find out! This same thing happened to me two
months ago when I had my galbladder removed. It is still so very painful.
I have been back to the surgeon who removed my galbladder, my WLS surgeon
and my PCP. I have had and Upper GI, and am scheduled for an endoscopy and
CAT scan. The docotors cant find anything. The pain is sometimes so
severe that all I can do is sit with a heating pad and cry. It has
progressivly become worse as the days have past, and I cant even work. If
whatever it is, is the same as what I am going through. Please go to your
doctor now, this has been a very long process for me. I would hate to see
you go through the same. Email me if you want to know more.

Hi! I had terrible pain about a week after having my gallbladder removed.
It was almost worse than any of the attacks I had! I called my surgeon
because Vicodin wasn't touching it, and he explained that it was probably
CO2 that was trapped in my ribs. My gallbladder surgery was Lap and they
have to "blow you up" with CO2 and sometimes they can't get it
all out, so it settles and is very painful. My surgeon said to walk a lot
and it will go away in a day or so...he was right, thank goodness! Please
call your Doctor! Especially if it doesn't improve over the weekend! Good
Luck to you!

If you had your gallbladder removed lap, it's probably all the gases they
blow up your abdomen with. I had an appendectomy lap approximately 1 yr.
after my WLS, and I have horrible back/abdomen pain for approximately 3
weeks afterward. Don't worry - it goes away. Walking a lot helps it.
