Question:
has anyone had lowerback pain and in the hips? this happens to me from time to time

sometimes its so bad that i have to have a drug to dull the pain which makes me sleep alot, could this be due to the weightloss?? I sure could use some help.    — rachel A. (posted on August 10, 2004)

I too have alot of pain in my hips, its so bad sometimes that I can barely walk, I have asked the doctor about it, he said its probably just fluid buildup--he won't put me on medicine for it because I have a lot of stomach trouble, but I do take ibuprofen, it relieves it some, but not alot. If you find relief for this let me know.

I heard that when we lose weight fast our joints have to adjust. I have noticed my arms fall closer to my body and my legs actually feel longer and my feet heavier. Without all the fat in the way the joints can settle in.

Many times this is your body adjusting to the new weight distribution. A chiropractor (a good one) can help. Do you have a large panni? This can also cause problems. If it's this, make sure you get it documented for future panniculectomy purposes.

I went thru this when I had lost about 75 pounds. I hurt from my shoulders down but after about a month or two, I quit hurting and actually feel wonderful. I think mine was definitely from my body trying to figure out how my remaining weight should be distributed. Sometimes I find myself still walking as if I'm carrying 120 extra pounds and I have to remind myself to straighten up!

I have lost 146 lbs and I find myself with hip and lower back pain from time to time. I figured it was arthritis..I'm 38 yrs old but having gone from 328 to 180lbs I feel really good and I'm willing to put up with a little discomfort now and than. Totally worth it!

Your problem can also be sciatica. I have sciatica. The pain is in my right hip from time to time. See an orthopedist. There are things that can be done to help reduce or completely get rid of the pain if that's what it is.
