Question:
Is it normal to have constant pain in ONE of my incisions?
I had a lap RNY on 11/25. Since the day of surgery only one of my incisions has hurt. My doc said that was okay at first, because that is where he did the most work. But it has been two weeks, and there is still considerable pain. It is a constant burning and throbbing sensation. Does everyone go through this? It gets worse if I try to stand up, sit down, bend, twist, anything. Thanks for your imput!! Ann — Ann H. (posted on December 11, 2002)

Ann, I had the same problem. But it was my whole stomach and still is.
The doctor explained that it was my stiches streching to accomodate the
movement I am doing. but I will suggest you contact your doctor and check
with him.

LAP-RNY on October 8th and had pain from only one incision, for the most
part. That incision was the one at the stomach area and it hurt for a few
weeks. After about 3 weeks the pain went away and all was well. You are
almost there and in a few days you will be doing much better. Down 53 in 9
weeks and I know you will have much success also.

I have not had the surgery yet. However, my 110 16 yr old daughter had to
have her gallbladder out via a lap procedure. She complained about pain in
one of the incisions for a couple of months. The Dr. explained that that
was the incision that had the camera in and during the surgery there is a
lot of twisting/pulling/manuvering to see everything. It is extremely
common for 1 incision to hurt more. If it hurt so much on a small person,
I can't begin to think how much movement takes place on a larger person and
would assume it hurts as much or more.
