Question:
Does anyone know if WLS can be performed on someone with ulcerative colitis?

I have ulcerative colitis which tends to flare up a few times a year... Does anyone know if WLS is still an option for me?    — nidia W. (posted on February 4, 2003)

I have U.C. and my surgeon and GI doc said the surgery would be fine to have. Lap rny 10/9/02 70lbs gone. Jen

I have UC. Had DS on 9/16/02. Down 67 lbs. and 17 lbs. from goal. Go for it!! I would do it again in a flash!

I also have ulcerative colitis, which is controlled by medication. I went for a consult at Bariatric Treatment Center in Philadelphia and the doctor there told me he felt my only option might be VGB. He said he had only every operated on one person who had ulcerative colitis and hers was completely asymptomatic. I am now looking into lap banding. Good luck! Vicki
