Question:
Anyone else have weird reactions to left overs?

Because my meals are so small I usually have enough food for another meal or two because it's almost impossible to cook just enough for one of my small meals. The same is true, of course, when I go out to eat. I usually have enough leftover for a few meals. The only problem is that most time I can't eat the same thing again unless it's fresh again. Usually (there have been one or two exceptions but rarely) if I try to eat the leftovers for the next meal or the next day I feel nauseous just thinking about it. I don't get it. I've never had food aversions before to things I like. I not only have to have certain foods but it seems like now that I'm postop everything has to be fresh. Even when I take delicious stuff home from a restaurant it usually never gets eaten again. What is up with that?    — susanje (posted on April 10, 2003)

I don't get aversive thoughts about leftovers, but certain reheated things just don't "go down" well. For instance, reheated chicken and fish tend to get a little dry or dense, and the texture just isn't good . I have had the most difficulty with white meat chicken and fish that has been frozen. My nutritionist said that food that has been frozen can be a problem if not reheated really carefully.

Yes, I've definitely noticed this. Leftovers that wouldn't have made it through the night pre-op now end up getting thrown out because I have no interest in eating the stuff again. Generally I find that my nausea is still easily triggered even after 6 1/2 months post-surg. It continues to surprise me how often this happens but while I'm still in my honeymoon phase I'm not complaining. Since the surgery, everything regarding food has changed e.g. amounts, types and quality. I couldn't be happier. Down 85 lbs. with 55 lbs. left to go.

We talked about this at suport group a coupla times. Seems to be common. Do they change molecularly? Or in the fridge? Or in the microwave? Or what? There are only a few foods that I eat 2nd day. Like you, I'm not a snob, but they don't set well.

Yes, wow, I thought my stomach was just being stubborn or something. I can hardly eat leftovers without throwing them back up. It's like they just won't go down all the way for some reason. Thanks so much for posting this question, I thought it was just me. Best of luck!

I asked the same question about leftovers a couple of months ago. The answers I got were about how to make food more moist in the microwave. But I cant eat ANY leftovers no matter what they are, hot or cold it just will not work. Makes me gag just to look at them. And I dont have a SO to pass my leftovers to. Its fresh or nothing for this girl. Not sure why some of us get that way. So... I guess wasting food(money too!) is just one of the down falls of WLS. But its one I'll take.
