Question:
Is it normal to have a lump in your chest all day after eating something that didn't

sit well? I'm 8 weeks out,-30 lbs, RNY. The only problem I've had since the surgery is I dumped on V8 juice once. Drank a full glass instead of a half. I had no idea that could happen with V8. I have learned that lesson:) My problem is for breakfast I decided to have a few bites of grits with a slice of turkey bacon. (I had a protein drink earlier in the morning.) Well, it didn't go down good. Felt like a big lump was in my chest. Now everytime I eat something the lump comes back. What is this?? Liquids have stayed down just fine. Like the little girl on AFV's said "I'm never eating green beans again", "I'M NEVER EATING GRITS AGAIN...":)Any words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.    — Marie N. Marie, I'm still pre-op (one week to go) but my doctor said no grits. Can't tell you why but that is specifically on my list.

It's completely normal. You're not digesting the meat. I have the same thing written in my profile regarding turkey meat. Also, leave the grits alone. The carbs will kill you in the long run. I just realized that carbs have been my problem all along and has contributed greatly to my slow weight loss. Try eggs instead, or some laughing cow cheese wedges. Hope this helps.

Actually I'm wondering if maybe you haven't gotten a piece of bacon bobbing around in your pouch that wasn't chewed well enough. If it doesn't go away soon, try taking some papaya enzyme or Aldoph's tenderizer in hot water and see if that doesn't help it pass. I can't see how grits would do this.

It's probably not chewing the meat enough. But also, grits--like rice--really swell up with liquid and may be too starchy right now. Good luck!

Grits tend to be high in fat and so was the bacon, this is probably the source of your discomfort. I get that alot, but I have recently learned that I have a Hiatal hernia. I used to get that feeling every time I thought about eating anything except yogurt, cottage cheese or soup. As for the eggs, be careful not everyone tolerates eggs well, it took me 4 years to be able to eat egg whites (forget about hard boiled eggs),my Dr said that is because boiling eggs cooks the gas in and well, that gas has to go somewhere. Good Luck, the Adolph's in warm water really does work (if you don't vomit first that is)

Were the grits instant? I CANNOT eat instant grits. But the old fashioned cooked ones I can. The instant ones seem to swell up in my pouch. Good luck
