Question:
After the Hair Loss Stops, What About the Frizzies?

Hi everyone, I think my hair loss has stopped or at least slowed way down (I'm 10 months out). However, the bottom of my hair is very frizzy and it has no life or bounce to it. I'm sure it's the damaged hair and it will grow out eventually but for right now it's still a problem to deal with. I've tried a lot of products but nothing seems to work to help this situation. I was wondering if anyone has found anything that helps make it look nicer as all the dead frizzy stuff is growing out    — susanje (posted on November 11, 2003)

Basicly I think the only thing that will help is to get it trimmed. Your hair will grow out faster when the damaged ends are cut of too. I use a shampoo w/conditioner, then a conditioner, and then another conditioner for frizzies when your hair is just damp. And it hasn't really helped at all. I've tried many brands too. If I blow dry it, it looks frizzy. If I don't, it looks ratty. My hair is growing in curly but the straight part is just plain frizzy. (I've always had very straight hair.) I've had it trimmed and that did help. But I need to get it trimmed more. I'm tempted to try a relaxer but I've never tried those before. I don't know if they are too strong for blond hair and my bangs are very thin. The last perm I had 10 years ago really did a job on my scalp so I'm weary of any more chemical treatments. Good Luck. I have the same problem. And to top it off....its all growing back in curly too. What is that about? Anyhow, a flat iron is the only thing that I have found that keeps my hair from frizing up during the day.

I had the dreaded frizzies also...humidity in Virginia just compounded the problem. I use a product called Frizz-Ease that you can find in your local drug store that helped tremendously. Beats going out looking like a poodle. Good Luck to you

Besides your 2 multi vites, are you taking 400-800 IU dry form E? Hair can be crispy if there's not enough E to go around. Do you avoid fats or do normal fats?

Thanks everyone for the commiseration. Michelle, I'm not doing E dry, I didn't even know it comes like that. I tend to do normal fats though my "reduced fat" mind still buys that if a product is available in it. However, I think my diet is overall low in fat. I was doing flaxseed etc supplements (Udos Oil) in my protein drink in the morning but stopped. I didn't notice a big difference when I stopped. Anyway, I'd appreciate any supplement/vitamin recommendations you can offer.

Lots of people do flax SEEDS (ground), not the oil. They report all kinds of marvelous things happening to them! We were started on the dry E (and A&D) (because we malabsorb fats/oils, to a degree), but we have increased ours (remember, my dh & I are very, very distal) until the skin is not flaky and hair is not crispy. LOL! This is over years & years, not months. Our docs are fine with what we're taking. I have read that 800 IU is recommended for heart health, so use your judgment, ask your doc when you see him next.
