This is such a wonderful site with so much information already available. There is a section where you can click on the state of Georgia and see that there are many doctors in the Atlanta area. Check out Dr. Dennis Smith who offers the duodenal switch (Atlanta is one of the few areas with a DS surgeon!!!!). Good luck in your search.

Take a look at Dr. Champion. I can't say enough good things about him and his staff. He did my lap RNY in Nov. 99 and I have had a great recovery and have lost 50 pounds. Go to www.drchampion.com for more info. Good luck in your search for a great WLS surgeon in the Atlanta area.

There are several excellent surgeons in the Atlanta area that are well known and some who aren't as well known. There are also some who run surgery mills in my opinion. They treat everyone the same, do the same surgery and just press you out of a mold....I would just investigate each doctor and method THOROUGHLY...and don't forget the most important part....check with the GA Medical Board for sanctions against the doctors and find out what the sanctions are...you'll have to write for them...but I know I would want to know if my surgeon had been disciplined by their regulatory board and WHY? So make sure you check that out....because at least one of the POPULAR docs in the Atlanta area has board action against them. Just take all precautions.

I am planning to see Dr. Daniel Smith at Emory. He studied at the Mayo clinic and I've heard really good things about him. I'm hoping to get lap RNY. Good luck!

One of the members of my support group went to a seminar conducted by Dr. Fobi when she was living in LA. She told him that she was moving to Atlanta and need the names of some surgeons. One of the surgeons he recommended was Dr. Appel. He was my surgeon and he was excellent. There are a lot of very talented surgeons in Atlanta, so picking one is probably just going to be a matter of personal preference. Good luck on this amazing journey!
