Question:
At 19 days postop why would I keep waking up with a sideache?

It kind of feels like when you run a long way and then get a sideache if you stop too quickly. Anybody have any reasoning for this?    — tpiland (posted on December 16, 2000)

Hi!! Well I dont know if this is it. But after my surgery I had a pesky pain in my right ribcage. I couldnt walk or stand very long and it would be kind of a sharp pain. My surgeon said I had pulled a muscle. With this surgery we are using so many other muscles to keep us from using the "main" muscles that we tend to pull the tiny unused ones. This was deep tho.. like at my ribcage. You probably just have a pulled muscle. Mine only hurt tho if I stood too long, slept wrong, or walked for a long distance. I would check with your doc tho. I am one month post op and it is FINALLY not hurting anymore!! I feel back to normal now! I had Lap RNY by the way. Hope this might help a little.

I have been having the same pain. I called my surgeon to make sure I hadn't hurt myself and the nurse explained that this pain is normal up to 6 weeks post op. It if from scar tissue forming and pulling (and yes sometimes tearing a little) but it is not dangerous and will subside. If you need reassurance, please call your surgeon, that's what they're there for.
