Question:
Should you use creams or moisturizers to help your skin stay elastic?

I will be having WLS on January 15,2001. Is there some kind of moisturizer or cream to help keep the skin elastic so the shrinking has less "sagging" effects? I would like to minimize this effect, I know I will need to exercise... but what else can I do?    — marlene R. (posted on December 21, 2000)

I have no idea if it will help you. It didn't help me. I have lost 86 pounds and 72.5 inches and loose skin and sagging skin is there. Bat wings, ripples over my elbows and my knees. skin starting to hang over my navel. And OMG my butt went flat and went south with several wrinkles to go with it. I have read the exersise will tone your body but will not make loose or sagging skin improve. Some may spring back but it all depends on your age and I think some luck. I'm 43 so the Dr. said mine would not spring back. Maybe over time it will, but for now I am dealing with it and happy I am healthy. My weight loss has slowed but I still am losing inches. My body seems to keep reshaping in a good way. Who know what I will look like months down the road. Guess it is a wait and see kinda thing.

I am 41 and have lost 115 pounds so far. I am only 5'1" so I do have some sagging skin- but not as much as I thought I would. I think exercise is a major key: I lift weights which really helps to tone, as well as walking to lose the weight. I also have heard that getting in our 64 oz. of water helps our skin too. I use a variety of lotions after a shower, not only to moisterize the skin, but to pamper myself with something other than the food I used to eat. I am praying I won't need a TT! Good Luck!

I believe that moisturizing will definitely help. On my fact, I use a rich moisture cream twice a day and I ALWAYS put it on with upward strokes (which defies gravity) -- of course I have done that since I was a teenager and my skin looks amazingly young and I don't need to wear makeup at age 44. Dittos to everything MB said too. Best wishes.

Be sure to nourish from the inside, too. Take at least 800 IU of dry (non-oil) Vite E per day. Vite E is one of the 8 elements we malabsorb, so be sure to replenish it in an absorbable form. And do all the stuff other people said, to, as they are ALL going to contribute to your healthy glow, as well as your overall success!
