Question:
Seems like no loosing when I drink Crystal Lite

I am 5 weeks Post-Op and down 45 pounds so no complaint there. Seems like the days I drink Crystal Lite more than water I do not loose or even gain. Does this sound like anything anyone else has had. Maybe only something in my mind.    — john59501 (posted on November 7, 2003)

I can't think of any reason why that would happen...as far as I know, Crystal Light is made of mostly water and is only 5 calories/serving I think? I don't think that it would hinder your weight loss unless you are drinking massive amounts of it to where the calories really add up. If you drink more when you drink Crystal Light than when you drink water, the gain you experience just might be because you are drinking so much and it's water weight. That's not a bad thing though, at least you are dehydrated! :o) Good job on your loss by the way

It may be just a coincidence. I didn't lose from weeks 3-5, and was trying to dins out why for so long. Finally I just accepted my body was in shock, and needed to recoup.

Hi John- I will write a passage from Dr Atkin's New Diet Revolution....'clinical observations (about NutraSweet and Equal) show that certain individuals find weight loss slows with excessive aspartame.' It is in chapter 15 (about plateaus), page 189. I don't know what Crystal Lite is sweetened with, as I haven't bought any since the summer. Hope this helps :o) Mea

Hi John, congrats on your weight loss so far. I can only offer what I have been told and what I've read. Dr. Atkins does say that people who are insulin resistant (as most MO people are) are effected by aspartame (which is what crystal light is sweetened with). Insulin rises with excessive use, being that insulin is a fat storing hormone anad spikes the appetite, you will be hungrier. My surgeon confirmed this and warned me to stick to water or drinks sweetened with splenda, and to stay away from aspartame for this very reason. Hope this didn't muddy the water for you.. God bless. I have the same issue with crystal lite. I was drinking it like CRAZY and my wl was very SLOW. As soon as I stopped drinking it, the weight began to come off consistantly.

I have been drinking Crystal Light lemonade-diluted half and half with water-since my surgery and I have lost 62 lbs in 14 weeks.

Crystal Light has 1 carb per 8 oz serving. I dilute mine...1 gallon of water to 1 little can of Crystal light.

It's the artificial sweetener. It doesn't affect everyone this way, but occasionally someone who is sensitive to it will have this problem. I noticed this years ago that I do better without aspertame products. Weird. Splenda seems Ok though.

My two cents...I drink Crystal Lite everyday, the powdered kind you mix with water. I drink it instead of water most of the time. I'm 2 months out from my surgery and have lost 62.5 pounds. Congratulations on your success so far! XOXO
