Question:
What if I am sick before surgery?

Hi: I am getting sick...surgery is next week. What will happen? I am scheduled for surgery a week from today. I am getting sick!! Right know it is a cold, but my colds always turn into sinus infections, or bronchitis. I did go to my PCP today and got a prescrip for z-pack - antibiotic. What do surgeons do if you are sick? How sick till they cancel your surgery? I go Monday for pre-op testings, I hope I start getting better. I'm all upset know, cause if it gets canceled, another wait! What have others done?    — Karen A. (posted on January 26, 2001)

Karen, Try taking some BIG doses of vitamin C all weekend to try to nip this in the bud. Take 1000 mg of vitamin C at least twice a day. Vitamin C is water soluable, so your body will excrete any excess - it won't hurt you. I find that taking really high doses of it at the beginning of a cold can sometimes just make the cold disappear before it takes hold.

I am having the same problem. Had an episode with CMV (kinds like chicken poc) and was on steroids and Acyclovir. Now I have been fighting a cold all week and I think I am winning, Have been taking mega VIt. C and cold preparations. Hve had no temp so that is good. I can't beliec all this started 1/12 weeks before surgery. Will have surgery on Monday January 29. Wish me luck!

Don't forget that for Vitamin C to be water soluable you must drink water and at least 64 oz a day!
