Question:
Will I gain the weight back

I am 6 months post-op, with open RNY, and have lost 96 lbs. and feel great and I think that I look good or should I say better. Everyone I have told about the surgery, has a tale to tell me that in the years to come I will gain it back because of either overeating or stomach streatching, I sure don't want to gain this weitht back. Is it really that easy to gain back, I do watch what I eat. I hope that this is not a trick for a year or so, and then later to be back to the same FAT me. Thanks for you answers... D    — lyn L. When I was pregnant with my first child there were certain people who LOVED to tell me horror stories about women who died in child birth or had deformed babies. Those people unfortunatly exist and like to rain on the parades of others. Past surgery was different , what type of surgery are they talking about? Do they know these people personally? Can they point them out to you? Do as you are told by the doctors and nutritionalists , go to support group, you will be fine. I met a woman 15 years post op who has kept off all but 25 lbs or so , when she goes up she goes to weight watchers. 25lbs is nothing compaired too the 150 she lost all those years ago. And she is always sucessful in getting those lbs off, she looks great , and even when I met her with those 25 extra lbs she looked great to me.

These people are probably talking about someone who had the surgery many years ago before it was improved. Some people are just so negative. You are doing great!!!!!!!!! Like the previous poster said, follow your surgeons advice. You are doing terrific. Wow, 96 lbs in 6 months. Enjoy your new body.

There are things you can do to enhance your chances for success, and things you can do to stretch your pouch or otherwise go downhill. 10 years ago, 20 years ago, there WAS no help. Even if they had a reasonably good surgery done right, they had no coaching to help them along. THEY didn't fail, but their tool failed because it was incomplete. There are better options today.

Dont you just love some of the negativity? Some did, some didnt. My mother had this surgery done in 1976. She is now wearing a 14. I call that a big success.

You are doing fantastic!!! I don't want to hear about people and their "tall tales" either. I'm RNY open, 9 mos. and minus 89 lbs. In the last week it seems like there has been a surge of these "gained all the weight back" scares. I know it can happen, but geez, I wish they would just keep quiet.
