Question:
Does BCBS of IL PPO cover DS surgery?

Has anyone with BCBS of IL been approved for the Duodenal Switch? Or were you denied because they claim it is "investigational"?    — [Anonymous] (posted on February 13, 2002)

My understanding that the problem of getting BCBS to pay for the DS is a nationwide issue and not limited to Illinois. I don't understand this as the research certainly supports the long term success of this procedure.

I've just been approved for the ds and I have bcbs of Illinois PPO.Once they got my paper work, it was only 3 days before I found out that I was approved. My bmi is 68 and I don't have most of the comorbidities that others have. You can email me if you want to. Good luck!
