Question:
When does this money have to be paid?

I have done all that I think I have to do and am waiting on the insurance company. I know that with my crappy insurance that I have to pay my surgeon the 30% not covered- and was told that only a portion of that needs to be paid before surgery (just under $700). It is now June and I am not planning to have my surgery until the beginning of November (for various reasons). Those of you who have had the surgery or have already been approved and were in a similar situation, did you have to have it paid before a date was set or did you have to pay it by a certain cut-off date before surgery? I meant to ask this when I was speaking with the lady in the insurance department at my surgeons office but when she told me the amount (which was much lower than I thought I would have to pay up front) I totally forgot. My second question is how many of you had to pay something upfront to the hospital? My surgeon's nurse says that the hospital I will be at is good about setting up a payment plan (since I have insurance), but I am wondering if I have to pay something to them beforehand. Thank you for your responses!!    — karmiausnic (posted on June 13, 2002)

My co-pay of $2808.00 had to be paid 2 days before surgery, I'm now 3 weeks post op and down a little under 30 pounds. It's great that you don't have to pay that much, Best wishes .

Talk about rough... my surgery is being paid by my insurance company but my surgeon isn't on my Preferred Providers list. Therefore I had to come up with a $7,875 deposit for the surgeon's fees which was due 3 days pre-op. Ouch!
