Question:
Possible PCOS diagnosis. Does this affect an Insurance company's decision?

Through my teenage and adult years(so far) I have had irregular cycles and sometimes no period at all. I was just told I may have PCOS. After reading up on it, the symptoms feel very similar and familiar to me. My fear is will I be denied due to the syndrome, or will I still be able to have surgery? If anyone could help, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, and God bless!    — kathleenv515 (posted on October 18, 2002)

Hi, Kathleen, I'm pre-op, but PCOS is usually associated with obesity. So, when you get submitted, you can ask your PCP or surgeon to list your PCOS (if diagnosed) as a co-morbidity or associated disease. If anything, it will make your insurance approval quicker! Hope this helps....

Have to agree with the previous poster, PCOS was the only co-morbid I have and my insurance approved me within 2 days - of course I met their other requirements also. With all the endocrine issues of PCOS, WLS is often the only way to lose weight and keep it off.

I too have PCOS and I was told it should actually HELP my chances of getting approved! Good luck!

You can list PCOS as one of your comorbidities, and it should actually HELP you in getting approved. :)

I had PCOS before surgery. It prevented us from getting oregnant and caused A LOT of other troubles. I am 1 year post op and 31 weeks pregnant! We are thrilled! everything has gone great...labs have been perfect, etc. My isnurance co. approved me for RNY with no trouble. Best to you, DP

I agree with the others! WLS will NOT CURE your PCOS (but then nothing will) but WLS will help the symptoms; and it's those symptoms that get you the approval.
