Question:
Any reason why I would have severe stomach pain with a small ulcer 5mm?

I was told I had an ulcer back in early Sept.I never had a problem my meds ran out 3 weeks ago.I asked the nurse she never said anything so I assumed I didnot need them within 4 day I was back in the hospital with severe pain.I was told my ulcer was back and was given Nexium and carafate.I went back in 3 days later for the same thing I have been having nausea diareha plus lots of pain I was given an upper Gi nothing abnormal I had a feeding tube put in bypassing pouch no change.I was released 11-26-02 and was told that the meds should help if not I would need to come back and get more tests plus have a line installed in my stomach so I can be fed that way.I am pretty upset about all of this and I hate staying zoned on pain meds all the time any ideas??    — Norman F. Hi there. Were you transected? I, too, had severe stomach pains (also told I had an ulcer), and was put on Nexium and Sulcrafate - they worked --sometimes. The pain was unbearable, and my doc didn't prescribe pain meds. I had an Upper GI by someone totally unfamiliar with the RNY, and his report showed nothing wrong (he did write that my stomach was "grossly manipulated". Nice!). But I just knew something was wrong. So I had a second Upper GI (made sure they had experience w/post ops), and right away, they found a Staple Line Disruption (I wasn't transected first time). An endoscopy confirmed it. I am not trying to scare you. But trust your instincts and please demand repeated testing. Get reports of your labs and tests to see for yourself what is there. I've learned not to believe any test result until I see it with my own eyes. Good luck to you and please keep us posted.

Hello. My ulcer was treated with prevacid for 4 months and the ulcer remained unchanged. It was the opinion of my gastroenterologist, WLS surgeon, and my PCP that I have surgery to remove it. I did this last September, and have never felt better in my life. I understand the pain you are in and it is miserable. I wish you a very fast recovery.
