Question:
I have a consultation with Dr Custer in late April to see if I qualify for wls.

Can anyone who has gone to him give me any idea of what his qualification for being accepted as a patient of his may be. Any info would be greatly appreciated. I am especially interested in knowing what he expects as far as weight loss history. Thanks.    — Kathy G. (posted on February 23, 2003)

I'm with Dr Custer, I found the consult very relaxed and very easy, since I have spent so much time on this site, I was very prepared and ready to go. Feel free to email me with any other questions.

Dr. Custer performed my surgery on July 29, 2002 and did a marvelous job!!! My first consultation with Dr. Custer put me at ease, because he was extremely personable and intelligent. Good Luck in your journey, my prayers are with you.

I have dr custer, I had my surgery done Jan 27, 2003. I felt so at ease with him doing my surgery. I cant say i was ever really nervous about having it because i prayed everyday even the day of my surgery while in the or waiting to be put to sleep. Anyway, He is a very nice doctor who treats all his patients with respect. I had a consultation with him and we went over everything and then we had a group meeting with 4 other patients and he went over everything again and who had questions asked them. I thought it was nice cause what one person wouldnt think to ask another person did. Also, if your a good candidate for lap he will do it because he doesnt believe in just cutting someone open if its not necessary. I had a complication on the operating table so he ended up cutting me open and fixing it, but other then that i am doing great. He knew the mistake was made and fixed it asap. He will let you know that he will do everything necessary to do a good job. He is only human and people make mistakes, I dont think there is a doctor out there who hasnt made a mistake before but as long as it gets fixed then there shouldnt be a problem right. Ok, enough of that, I would recommend him to any and every one in the ohio area. He is a great doctor and his staff is very great too. If he does your surgery lap he will have another surgeon working with him (dr price) if its open he will probably do it solo. All, they also have a great support group too. I only went once cause i live 11/2 hrs away and its on a school night so i cant go. But when i move back to col area i will be going. You can make alot of friends there and meet others who had it done and others who are waiting to have it done. Its a requirement that you go atleast once cause he wants you to beable to talk to others in person to see their experiences and ask them questions. Good luck, i really hope that you choose him cause he is really a great doctor who treats his patients with respect and kindness.

I was Dr. Custer's first WLS patient after being hired at Mid Ohio Surgical. I had my surgery on 11/5/01. I've lost 120 pounds and am at goal and have been since September. Dr. Custer is the best. I love him to death!! As far as being accepted as a patient, his requirements are the same as your insurance - 100 pounds or more overweight. I had NO co-morbidities but was obviously overweight and had been almost all my life.
