Question:
Did anybody NOT have to have plastic surgery after WLS?

I'm having surgery mid April and I was just wondering.... Since I'm 400lbs right now- will i have to have any plastic surgery. This is really the only concern i have is extra skin. Any help would be much appreciated :D    — Deanna H. (posted on March 9, 2003)

considering your age and your BMI, I would offer a totally non-professional guess that you'll likely have a pretty nice sized apron to have removed in the future. Your young (19, I believe your profile said) so there's still a goodly amount of elasticity in your skin. Hence, your arms and legs and neck may bounce back rather well...but I wouldn't gamble too much that the lower abdomen will. But lord don't let THAT stop you!

Whether you need to have reconstructive surgery following the weight loss or not depends on your genes, age, how long you were overweight, how overweight you started out, etc. It doesn't have to do with the WLS. I know several people who lost lots of weight with diet and exercise and needed reconstructive surgery. So if you plan to lose weight at some point, no matter how you choose to, you might still have to have plastic surgery. Good luck to you.
