Question:
9 Months Out and In Pain, Possibly Nerve Related, Anyone Else?

I had my initial surgery 7 -12 -02 not until 11-11-02 did I develop any real pain. I have been checked for everything under the sun and everything internal checks out fine, Painwise it's a different story. I have a severe pain in my abdominal wall region that the doctors feel is nerve related. The more I do the worse it gets any ideas would be greatly appreciated.    — Norman F. Go to your PCP or surgeon, and ask for a referral to some sort of chronic pain assessment and treament (psychologist, psychiatrist, rehabilitative MD). Pain syndromes can develop that are very REAL yet don't show up in labs. They can often develop after an injury (e.g., surgery) appears to have physically 'healed'. They will also do a proper assessment for any nervous system disorders that may be related to your pain condition. At the very least, they can help you manage the pain and having to live with it. GOOD LUCK! (P.S. alot of people with pain forego physical activity because of the pain. But that can actually lead to deconditioning, and worsen the pain, so light exercise, with dr's approval, may help too).

could it be adheasions? I knew a girl of only 17 years old never had any surgeries, and in unbearable pain, everything checked out they thought it was her overies, and were just plain stummped. They did a lap to see inside and it was adheasions, they had no idea why she got them, and there alot of adheasons, and she was also a thin person. If it keeps getting worse I'd have a surgeon take a look inside with laproscopy. Good luck

Hi, I have healed well from my Lap RNY about 2 months ago, but I did have pain long term from another procedure. I 1998, I has a breast biopsy which was negative, but for months, I had pain in that breast, making it hard to even wear a bra. We finally decided it must be a "nerve" thing. I went back to the surgeon several times to be checked, and he didn't "see" anything. I just toughed it out, which was probably not necessary, because I didn't think of a pain management Dr., but I would definitely go that route. Even now, I'm ok at rest, but I certainly wish my left breast wasn't hubby's first choice. LOL!!!! Believe me, I have been thinking about plastic surgery next summer, (2004), and have almost positively ruled out work on my breasts due to this past experience. I think I'll just roll them up and stick them in my bra!!! The tummy is another story.

I am not trying to scare you, but I had pain in abdomen and had Ct Scan and abdominal sonogram and they were normal. My WLS surgeon did diagnostic laproscopy yesterday ad found a small hernia that was where I had pain. Please go to a doctor that will isten to you. Internal hernias are no joke and can not always be seen on test. I wish you well. I just got out of the hospital today procedure was done yesterday. I hope you feel better.
